En el vuelo, iba sentado en la parte delantera, junto a su mujer. Justo antes del accidente se levantó para ir al baño. Posiblemente, cuando empezaron los problemas en el avión, salió del baño y se sentó en el primer hueco que vio, de ahí que pertenezca al grupo de los supervivientes de la cola.
